dishwasher not drying

Why is my dishwasher not drying the dishes properly?

The trusty dishwasher is an appliance that is supposed to make your life easier, so it’s frustrating when it only does half a job and you still need to dry the dishes once the cycle is complete!

If your dishwasher isn’t drying the dishes properly, these could be the reasons why

  1. Not opening the door once the wash cycle is complete. As dishwashers use hot water, when the wash cycle is over the steam that is trapped inside your machine can’t escape and this moisture will leave your dishes damp.
  2. Not stacking it properly. Try to leave room around each dish so areas for water and steam can’t collect and pool and leave you with residual water when the cycle is over.
  3. Not using rinse aid. Dishwashing detergent gets the dishes clean and rinse aid assists in aiding water to run smoothly off your dishes during the cleaning process. This prevents spots of water marking glass-wear and also keeps the other dishes dry.
  4. You’re pre-rinsing dishes. When you pre-rinse dishes you remove the ability for the dishwasher to function properly. Dishwashers use sensors to establish how dirty your dishes are and adjust the cycle accordingly. If your dishes have been pre rinsed it’s possible your dishwasher will automatically apply a shorter cycle and lower temperature for a less intense clean. This will lead to less evaporation and more damp on your dishes.
  5. Your vent is faulty. Many dishwashers use a vent to release the steamy air during the cycle. If the vent doesn’t open properly it will leave moisture on your dishes. If you’ve tried all of the above and your dishwasher still isn’t drying your dishes it may need to be repaired or replaced.
